After making wine in Tasmania for 12 vintages at Spring Vale, we and our three boys moved to Brisbane in search of bigger schools, kinder weather and new challenges. We found all three, and have since started our own tiny wine label, exploring Australia's great wine regions and the grapes that grow best there. We love sharing our knowledge and enjoyment of wine with friends new and old.
How did we get here?
I remember it like it was yesterday...I was unloading a truckload of grapes at Spring Vale. It had come from just up the road at our other vineyard at Melrose and it occurred to me: "this fruit could have come from anywhere..."
We got thinking - all you need to make wine is a truck with grapes on it and a shed to make it in; why not do it in the city where the drinkers are? OK, so it wasn't an original idea - urban wineries are popular all over the world - but we were excited by it nonetheless. Add to this the idea that we could explore Australia's wine by buying grapes from key regions and experiencing it first-hand, and we were obsessed. We pulled up our roots in Tassie and headed to Brisbane, with the burning desire to bring wine to the people. So far, we haven't realised our dream of an urban facility and cellar door, but we're working on it. For now, what we can offer is a personal mobile cellar door and wine parties every now and then for our mailing list.
